Project - El Camino
Unapologetically Tex-Mex with a Vegas rockabilly party vibe, El Camino is a sombrero-splashed good time.
Unlimited tortilla chips, party-sized margaritas and rock-n-roll tunes, El Camino is the unashamedly “extra” Tex-Mex restaurant sweeping across the east coast. Each location has a distinct Vegas rockabilly aesthetic, recalling lowrider culture, muscle cars, rock’n’roll and animated skeletons. Based on the original design by Melissa Collison at their original venue at The Rocks, each iteration has its own flair, such as the brighter beachside aesthetic of the Manly location.
Perch a bright sombrero on your head and tuck into a menu full of Tex-Mex classics like buffalo wings, fajitas and tacos, washed down with a hefty collection of mezcal and tequila. Giant margaritas, pumping music and cheerful staff keep the party going all day long.
Like its menu, the interior takes its cues from both Texan and Mexican influences, with textures of exposed brick, stone, timber and intricate tiles succulent gardens standing in contrast to the neon, rock-n-roll paraphernalia, car parts and graphic murals featuring low-rider flames and a proliferation of skeletons. Seating ranges from cosy booth seating reminiscent of classic car upholstery, to metallic bar stools, and the neon lighting is contrasted with industrial or bare-bulb lighting dependent on location.
At the original venue at The Rocks in Sydney, lighting designer Electrolight provided the template from which all subsequent venues took their cues - the lighting is fun, colourful and plentiful, focusing on ambience rather than illumination. A number of venues feature an industrial lighting feature comprised of dozens of the Bunker Cage Industrial Light; an original design by Fat Shack Vintage based on explosion-proof bunker lighting for mining and marine operations. Lit by colourful bulbs, the industrial flush mount is given a striking artistic look clustered together, its large scale giving the impression of a lower ceiling for well-lit dining.
Whether you install our vintage or industrial style lights individually for authentic appeal, or cluster them together to create a brand-new statement piece that will be a talking point for all who see it, we can help you achieve the look you are after.
