Project - Courthouse Hotel
A heritage hotel with a new lease on life.
The Courthouse Hotel in Tamworth is one of the areas oldest buildings. Established in 1876, the heritage-listed building recently underwent a large renovation to restore the façade and update the interior whilst retaining its country character.
The menu focuses on both traditional and contemporary pub dishes, with a wine list full to bursting with Australian labels. With the addition of a family area for parents with kids, as well as extending outside to almost double their space, the Courthouse is a community gathering space with something for everyone.
Outside, an update to the Courthouse’s landscaping was undertaken by the team at Geoscapes, taking into consideration the drought restrictions in Tamworth by choosing hardy plants that were not only drought hardy but could also within the frosts typical of a Tamworth winter. A Red Beach Hibiscus features in the courtyard while raised planters offer levels of greenery that helped to make a seamless transition from old to new Courthouse.
The interior is cosy and inviting, thanks to the vision of the team at Warrane. Warm natural textures in black, brown, cream, copper and brass were the focus, fulfilling the brief of a welcoming environment that respected the heritage of the building. Brick, wood, concrete, soft leather-style upholstery and aged metallics in copper and brass create a seamless blend of materials for a contemporary pub feel. Mammoth Projects brought the Warrane design to life with a high-quality finish throughout.
Warrane chose to take advantage of the wide range of lighting we have here at Fat Shack Vintage. They chose not only pieces like our solid copper Factory Shades and Atlantic Exterior Wall Light, but also more broadly appealing pieces like the Bunker Globe Wall Light and Glass Ball Pendant Light.
Lighting creates a subtle separation between the spaces of the hotel, with uncomplicated opal globe shades lighting up the bar area for more casual punters, and factory shades in heritage-style aged copper adding ambience to the bistro and family areas. Outdoors, festoon lighting, copper pendants and bunker-style wall lights illuminate the new outdoor dining space and the heritage exterior. Together with more functional downlights and spotlights, the cohesive blend of modern and heritage style lighting suits the updated Courthouse perfectly.
Got a heritage building you’re looking to renovate but want to stay true to the history of the building? We offer both reproduction lighting for an authentic look or pieces inspired by heritage designs with a more modern aesthetic.
